David has been a friend and long-term client of internationally acclaimed luthier Bill Merchant, a professional for over 42 years. Their rapport and David’s burgeoning skills as a woodworker dovetailed into David training with Bill as a luthier. David prides himself on continuing Bill Merchant’s legacy of expert diagnosis, tonal adjustments, and fine repair work. 

To further develop his luthiery skills, David has participated in workshops with Nick Lloyd, Jay Vandekopple, Kieran O'Hara and is a member of the International Society of Bassists.
